October is Sons and Daughters Month.

This is an annual campaign run by The Fostering Network to celebrate the vital contribution that the children of foster carers make to foster care.

We’re so proud to celebrate the fantastic efforts that our young people, your own children, in Reading make to support the children and young people who come into their homes. We know it’s not always easy for them to share their home, their toys and their parents but it’s always great to hear lovely stories like Isabelle’s story. She is now training to become an early years practitioner having been a foster sibling since she was 8 years old!

Do your children come to Foster Squad?

If you don’t already know, the Foster Squad is our support group for children who foster. It’s a great opportunity to get them together to have fun but also share their experiences as a family who fosters. Juvy Romero runs our foster squad and is currently planning an online celebration for all our children who foster on 27 October. More details soon.

‘We feel privileged to be part of the Brighter Futures for Children fostering community and our children are no exception. Our supervising social worker always makes time to check in with them when she visits but it’s especially reassuring that they can attend the Foster Squad events, for down time and support with friends who share the same experience. They always have fun, but are especially proud of their “thank you” certificates and recognition of their commitment also.’

Thank you certificates

Just a heads up that we will be sending out some thank you certificates to all foster siblings, keep your eyes on the post!

We are so grateful to every foster sibling who has made a child or young person coming to be looked after in their homes to feel welcome. You are all incredible and very much deserving of this recognition.
