Reading Fostering team will be attending the UK Careers Fair at Reading Penta Hotel on Wednesday 20 May, 10am-12pm. An ideal opportunity to find out more about the role, how to become a foster care and what the pay and rewards look like.

As a foster carer, you’ll receive a competitive weekly reward and allowance, ongoing training and 24/7 support from a dedicated social work team, so you’re never on your own.

How it works

1. Initial enquiry – chat with our team to find out if fostering could be right for you
2. Information session – learn about the different types of fostering and what’s involved day-to-day
3. Application – complete a formal application and initial checks
4. Assessment – a trained assessor works with you over several weeks to explore your background, skills, and home environment
5. Panel – your assessment is reviewed by an independent fostering panel, who make a recommendation
6. Approval – the final decision, and you’re ready to welcome your first child

The whole process typically takes around four to six months, and support is there every step of the way.
