Care2Listen?

Back in February 2020, we recorded our first ever podcasts. And we’re really excited to announce that we’ll be releasing our first four on a weekly basis, starting today.

We got together with our young people from the Children in Care Council (CiCC) to head to the Readipop recording studio in Reading. Readipop are a fantastic music and arts charity, who are passionate about making a positive difference in young people’s lives and they generously donated their studio and editing time for us to be able to do this. A big thank you!

One of our young people in care explain why we are doing this podcast:

‘I did it because I think that we do need more foster carers, especially more so in the local area to avoid moving out.’

Our first task was to come up with a jingle for the podcast. We decided that we wanted to call the podcast, ‘Care2Listen’, after one of our CiCC groups with the same name. It’s a very apt choice as the group focuses on projects that give our young people and voice and making sure they get heard! We worked collaboratively with the creative director and made lots of tweaks here and there until you get to the jingle you’ll hear on the podcast today. We’re really proud of it.

We want the podcast to be another way of sharing what fostering is and what life is like in foster care. The more we tell people about fostering in Reading, the more foster carers we’ll have locally so that our children and young people can stay in Reading, where they belong. This is really important to them.

So, to kick things off, here is a conversation between one of our young people in care talking to one of our newest foster carers about what it was like for them on their first night as a foster carer with a child who had just arrived.

Care2Listen Episode 1: A foster carer prepares for their first night

…This is fostering.
